In Memoriam Gifts
An In Memoriam gift is a way to recognize someone important to you who has passed away - to remember them and to offer sympathy to others who are grieving.
A legacy gift is a living reminder of someone who cared about their community and supported causes that were important to them. Choosing to leave a gift brings meaning, dignity and purpose to a life well lived.
Deltassist will recognize the honoree through press releases, plaques and letters unless you specifically request to the contrary.

Leaving a Bequest to Deltassist
If you wish to establish a gift to Deltassist in the future with a charitable bequest, it is not necessary to advise us. However we hope you will, as we would certainly want to express our thanks.
Charitable bequests can be in the form of a specific amount of money or property or a residual bequest made up of a portion of the remaining estate after any specific items have been allocated elsewhere.
Your bequest can be aimed at a specific area of Deltassist’s work or allowed to be used for work most in need. If the bequest is to be aimed at a specific area, we would appreciate the opportunity to discus this with you in an effort to assure we do the best job possible to meet your expectations by planning the use of the funds or planning the use of the income from the funds appropriately.
Charitable bequests of property, securities, or assets frequently have issues of value and timing. Deltassist would obviously appreciate any advice you could give about these. If your bequest takes the form a life insurance policy please be sure to contact your life insurance agent to review the type of tax credit you will be eligible for. A gift of traded securities, like stocks, bonds or mutual funds can be the most cost effective way transfer value because of combined benefit of a tax receipt for the entire amount and not having to pay tax on the capital gain. Please contact your accountant and broker with details of the securities involved to get the exact implications.
Be assured in all cases we would like to shake your hand and thank you!
If you choose not to advise Deltassist ahead of time, you'll need the following information to establish your bequest:
- Our legal name is ‘Deltassist Family and Community Services’.
- We are a registered charity under the Income Tax Act of Canada, with registration number 11888 4170 RR0002.

Things to Know
A charitable bequest must be reflected in your Will. You will need to visit a lawyer or notary to make or update your Will and estate plan.
Deltassist recommends that you seek professional advice from your lawyer, accountant, insurance professional or financial planner to ensure the type and timing of your gift maximizes the tax advantages to you and ensure your intentions are accurately documented.

Be sure to talk to your family members. Make them aware of your intentions so they can support the legacy you plan to leave.
