Food Security in Delta
Deltassist works to help local residents with the provision of food. Our efforts include:
- our Emergency Food Cupboard (which can also provide bus tickets) for low-income Delta residents,
- our Community Garden, where we grow good for Delta community members who may be unhoused, or are low-income seniors, families or singles
- our Bread Gleaning program, where volunteers collect bread from a local bakery, and distribute it to various community partners, where it is free and available to all
- our Christmas Hamper program
- a partnership with the North Delta Rotary Club on the Starfish Backpack program, where school children can take home a backpack of food for the weekend
Our Food Security page also includes a list of food banks in the area.
Delta Opposes Violence Everywhere (DOVE)
DOVE works to prevent relationship violence through education, public awareness and coordinating efforts to reduce gaps that may exist in services.
Information, support and resources are provided at various public events scheduled around Delta.
Income Tax Assistance
Low-income Delta residents can drop off and pick up their taxes at our Free Tax Clinic.
Canada Revenue Agency-trained volunteers prepare and file simple tax returns, ensuring individuals receive the benefits and credits they are entitled to without interruptions.
Toy Depot And Christmas Hampers
Food is collected and then distributed in Christmas Hampers for low-income Delta residents. We also operate a Toy Depot where parents can choose Christmas gifts for their children.
