Board of Directors

Deltassist is governed by a board of directors: seven local residents who bring a diverse background of skills and experience to the board.

Johann Ackerman, President

Johann has been a  Delta resident since 1992 and a Deltassist board member since March 2015.

He is a former employee of the Canadian government (April 9, 1990 – Feb 3, 2024).

Johann is actively involved in his church and as a missionary. He is a recipient of the Queen’s 2012 Diamond Jubilee Medal for volunteering in the community.

Maurice L. Bouchard,  Vice President

Maurice (CPA, CA,BA) performs assurance and compliance services including private company audits and reviews, tax compliance, and client advisory and consulting. He serves clients in various industry sectors, primarily in distribution, real estate, construction, hospitality, services, and not for profit organizations.

Maurice received his Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University in 1969 and obtained his Chartered Accountant designation in 1974. Maurice spent eight years at the Vancouver office of a large national chartered accounting firm in the assurance and compliance practices before forming Bouchard & Company.

Maurice has been awarded the CICA Community Service Award, and continues to be active in the community through several organizations including Deltassist Family and Community Services Society as well as the North Delta Rotary Club. He brings community knowledge and local business information to the board. His fundraising efforts helped with the purchase and renovation of the North Delta facility.

Maurice is also an avid hockey player.

Garth Cuthbert, Treasurer

Currently a consultant (GRC Consulting Ltd.), Garth has vast experience as an Electrical Technologist, with specific skills in reliability-centred maintenance programs, equipment standards, and specific equipment maintenance. He provides mentoring support to developing engineers and technical staff and analyzes workforce safety issues. He managed BC Hydro’s oil reclamation and decontamination facilities, initiated BC Hydro Safety program towards a “Just Culture” basis, and improved BC Hydro’s Safety Incident Management systems’ effectiveness as a leadership tool.

Garth serves on the Board of the Delta Museum Society as well as on the Board of Deltassist.

Elaine Greggain, Secretary

A former accountant, Elaine worked in special education in the Surrey School District for 20 years, was an ESL teacher and home stay for international teachers and students, worked with a catering company, and is part of the Host program at BC place.

Elaine was a founding board member of Delta Family Services starting in 1975 and then a board member of Deltassist after it merged with Delta Family Services over 40 years ago. Elaine has been president, vice president and treasurer of the Deltassist board over the years.

Elaine was an emergency foster mom operating a short term emergency care home for 2 years, operated a bed and breakfast for 2 years, operated Country Rainbow licensed preschool and daycare for 20 children, volunteered for Expo 86 at the Pavilion of promise, volunteered for the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and worked to bring more professional, educational and prevention services to help to keep families together.

Elaine has a passion to keep families together for healthier communities.  She also was part of the building of 20 homes in North Delta and also volunteered at her daughter’s high school events and fundraisers.

Brad Sherwin, Director

Brad (MBA) is a senior strategy/marketing executive who has won awards as a marketing professional. He has extensive experience defining and building brands on a local and national basis and a history of influencing and leading teams and business owners towards successful outcomes.  He also has a track record of establishing strong relationships with stakeholders and suppliers built on mutual respect, integrity and results, as well as a proven ability to translate marketplace research into actionable communications strategy. 

Brad is also an Op-ed Columnist for the Delta Optimist and a regular contributor to the Community Comment editorial section. 

In his spare time he has volunteered for the Delta Triathlon, Tour de Delta, Van Triathlon, Delta 2010 Committee, Operation Red Nose, and the Deltassist Christmas Toy Depot. 

He is also a Certified Minor Hockey Coach, Level 1 Goalie Coach.

Dalbir Singh Mehta, Director

Dalbir (MBA in Business and Administration) is CEO of Khalsa Credit Union. He is a multi-lingual career banker with strong ties to his community and is devoted to building a better world for future generations.

An advocate of lifelong learning, Mr. Mehta has acquired diplomas, certificates, a bachelor’s degree and two Masters degrees in his personal quest.

Mr. Mehta is committed to the progress of Deltassist.

Dr. Inderjeet Mann, Director

Inder is a PhD and Postdoctoral fellow in Social Sciences, with an M.Phil. in Human Rights.

He is a former core-committee member of Amnesty International, the writer of numerous research articles, and a researcher of social history of South Asians in British Columbia. He has over15 years’ teaching and research experience with many Canadian and Indian Universities and has been a College Professor at Coast Mountain College and Northwestern Polytechnic.

Currently Inder is teaching at the University of Calgary and working as a Reviewer for International Journal of Migration & Integration (Netherlands). He has participated in a number of conferences, and co-chaired a session in the World Congress of Poli Sci held at Montreal. His current research focuses on South Asian Diaspora in Canada and its issues and aspects in Canadian state and society.
