October 1972: A New Agency Is Formed
In the fall of 1972, more that 60 people gathered at Delta Manor school to hold the founding meeting of Deltassist.
Initially, Deltassist was to act as an information referral service for Delta residents. Staffed by volunteers, the goal of the organization was to have a central place where people could call in and find out where other social services were available.
Officers and Board Members of the new organization were made up of church leaders, members of Delta Schools and social workers from Boundary Health Unit.
The Municipality of Delta was also involved, granting office space and phone service in the old police building in Ladner.
