Volunteers Help
The extraordinary care, diligence and service volunteers have shown is a never ending source of both amazement and appreciation. Our community is much enhanced by their service.
Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers at Deltassist must:
- Be 19 years of age and older
- Have a clear criminal records check
- Sign an oath of confidentiality
- Have 3 references that can be checked
- Driving volunteers must have a clear drivers abstract
Volunteer Opportunities we have now:
Income Tax Registration Volunteers:
For the North Delta office, we are looking for volunteers to help clients fill out their registration forms. No tax experience required.
Mondays, Wednesday & Fridays.
Shift 1: 10am-12pm Shift 2: 2-4pm
Christmas Volunteers:
We need volunteers for:
- registration (begins October 30th – December 8th)
- toy sorting (November 20 – December 8th)
- Toy Depot (December 11-14)
- translating at the Toy Depot (December 12-14)
Grocery Order Taking Volunteers:
On a weekly basis we take grocery orders from registered Deltassist shop clients over the phone. Calls will be completed one of three ways:
- The phone volunteer will call the seniors from one of the Deltassist offices the day before the shop
- The volunteer will call the seniors from their home the day before the shop
- or PENDING they will call the seniors from the designated grocery store the morning of the shop program (Tuesday in North Delta or Wednesday in Tsawwassen).
Volunteer Shoppers:
On a weekly basis our volunteer shoppers shop for seniors that cannot get out to shop for themselves. This program takes place in North Delta on Tuesday mornings and Tsawwassen on Wednesday mornings. This is a fun team setting type of volunteer opportunity.
Volunteer Drivers:
Volunteer drivers drive seniors that do not have any other means of transportation (such as HandyDART, friends or family) to medical appointments. This volunteer position requires a clear driving record and criminal records check.
Volunteer drivers are reimbursed for mileage.

Information & Referral Database Update Volunteer:
The I&R Update Volunteers address the DFCS mission by researching and collecting information on community services and programs available in Delta and the surrounding communities. Work from home (phone, email & internet research), 3-4 hours per week.

Volunteer Gardeners:
Growing season is soon going to be here and we looking for Volunteers to help out in our Community Garden. The garden is in the parking lot of our North Delta office. This garden produces fruit, vegetables and berries which we give away to those in need. No gardening experience necessary as we have several very experienced volunteers that will show you the way.
Food Security Volunteers:
Deltassist in partnership with Real Canadian Superstore in North Delta will be running an additional food security produce program to supplement our Community Garden Program. We are looking for volunteers to pick up produce from the store and volunteers to sort and package the produce at our North Delta office. This will be a weekly program.
Bread Delivery Driver:
For Wednesday mornings we are looking for a volunteer with a Van or Truck to pick up bread at Monte Cristo Bakery and drop it off at our North Delta office. We gratefully reimburse volunteer drivers for their mileage. If you have a couple hours on Wednesday mornings to help with this project please let us know.
